Why organic?
Not only has pesticide use affected plant and animal life, it has been linked to many health problems from eyesight and liver disease to certain forms of cancer and even Parkinson's. We believe that there is a better way! Lawns do not need to rely on chemicals to be lush and healthy, but with patience and a strong focus on soil health they can become their own eco-system, sustaining themselves with soil rich in micro-organisms and organic matter. Read more on our soil page.

Can I expect the same results that I get with traditional chemical lawn programs?
You can expect better results, but it will take a longer time to get there. Depending on the current state of your soil and the extent of your past chemical use, it could take up to two years to bring your lawn back to where it's meant to be- healthy, lush and, most importantly, safe for your bare feet! Sometimes chemical dependant lawns will even go through a sort of "withdrawal" as they adjust to an organic program. This is due to the absence of micro-organisms and organic matter in the soil. Patience is key  when transitioning to organics, but it is well worth it!

What about weeds?
We are not weed chasers, as weeds are only an indication of poor soil health. But, we do recognize that many people still don't want a weedy lawn as they switch to organics, so we offer a few services to deal with the problem until your lawn is weed free on it's own. These include hand digging, power raking and our new weed spray. We are also currently testing some new weed inhibitors that we hope to introduce as part of our lawn care program. Stay tuned!

Can I combine chemical fertilizer/herbicide with an organic approach?
You probably already know our answer to this one... No! Well, we can't really stop you, but we can strongly recommend that if you're switching to organics you have an all or nothing approach! Chemicals damage the micro-organisms that live in your soil, and these guys are your lawns best friends. Without them, your lawn will rely on chemcial products to sustain it, so you would only be counteracting all the good stuff we 've been adding to your soil.

What time frame can I expect to get my lawn to a fully healthy and organic state?
Depending on the current health of your soil, and the extent to which your lawn has been exposed to chemicals, bringing your grass back to a lush and organic state can take a year or more. It can also take less time if all your soil needs is a bit of a boost to get it going. Call us for your free consultation for information specific to your lawn.

Where does Lush Eco Lawns currently service?
We currently service Nanaimo to Victoria.

Will I save money?
Not initially. If you're used to buying a $20 bag of fertilizer from Wal-Mart, the price of an organic lawn renovation may come as a shock. It can cost as much as $400- $900 (or implemented into a year program) for a whole treatment, including aerating, compost top dressing, EM, organic fertilizer, seeding, etc. BUT... our goal is to bring your soil back to a fully healthy and vital state, able to sustain your grass without the need for big treatments. Simply put, we're trying to work ourselves out of a job :-), which is good news for your wallet.

Do you offer programs?
Absolutely! This is what we highly recommend to our customers, as transitioning to organics is a process, not completed after one treatment. It also helps to have your spring and fall treatments broken up into 12 payments. Contact us for more info!
